Our Story

Carpenters Wigs is a family-run business that began in 1980, with a passion for helping people feel confident and comfortable during what can be a very emotional time.

We understand that losing your hair can have a huge impact on how you feel about yourself. Whether you are experiencing hair loss due to chemotherapy, alopecia, a medical condition or for other reasons, we are here to offer support, understanding and expert advice.

Our private consultations are relaxed and personal. We take the time to listen, answer your questions and help you find a wig or hairpiece that feels right for you — with no pressure and no rush.

A little about how it began

Our story started in 1980, when Peggy Wood approached Mick Carpenter to restyle a child's wig and make it look more natural. At the time, wigs were often thick and heavy, and this simple request inspired a passion for creating wigs that looked and felt more like natural hair.

Over the years, wigs have developed enormously, with modern styles offering beautiful, natural-looking options that allow people to change their look while feeling completely themselves.

Today, every client's needs remain individual, and our aim is simple: for everyone who visits us to leave feeling happier, more confident and more like themselves.

Supporting our clients

We work closely with oncology and alopecia clients (Including Areata, FFA - Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia, Universal and Totalis and all other types of Alopecia), providing wig services for patients connected with hospitals throughout Kent.

We also proudly support clients of all ages and backgrounds, including children, men and women, ensuring everyone receives the same warm welcome and personal care.

The Little Princess Trust

We are proud to work closely with The Little Princess Trust, a wonderful children's charity providing real hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their hair through cancer treatment and other conditions.

VAT Exemption

VAT exemption may be available for clients who require wigs or hairpieces due to medical necessity, including hair loss caused by alopecia, chemotherapy treatment or other medical conditions.

At Carpenters Wigs, we believe that a wig is not just about hair — it is about confidence, identity and helping you feel like yourself again.
